Loud Pipes Save Lives!
In preparing for the Airdrie Scots’ 2024 Robbie Burns performance, I recorded some of the tunes.
I recorded a 6 track (5 voice) rendition of Hallelujah on my pipes today, using the built in mic on my laptop. This is a work in progress that my band is working on for our upcoming Robbie Burns dinner and performance.
Something I was asked recently was if I sell Gift Cards or Certificates. Usually this is for someone wanting to purchase a lesson as a gift.
The short answer is YES.
And the gift certificate is not limited to being used for lessons. You could also purchase one as a (partial) payment towards a performance.
If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.

We recorded some tunes on video for the band this past week, and the members also recorded some solo’s. Here is Kevin’s Hornpipes on youtube
This tune is traditional. It is believed it was written in the early 1700s.
Apparently Old Wife in this context is slang for spider.
Another title speaks of Sacred Women of the Mill.
I recorded each part individually on a practice chanter, whereas I recorded the entire tune on kitchen pipes.
Tune in its entirity:
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
Part 4
Part 5
Part 6
As it is the season, I’ve started looking at what traditional Christmas Carols will work on the pipes. Note, the “play” button may not show but it is to the left of the time indicator. First up, Jingle Bells and Oh Christmas Tree.

Same as with my last post, I did some sounds effect editing (eq, treble boost, etc) to try and smooth out the quality of recording (vice quality of playing 🙂 ) on a 3 part harmony. This one fades out, so it sounds like the band is marching away 🙂 Here, without the fade, … Continue reading “Steam Train to Mallaig, 3 part harmony”

Here, without the fade, but more post processing…
For comparison, here is just the Melody, no post-processing.
